This brought back memories! In 1975 dh and I stood right there, when a small pug dog jumped in. The crowd was laughing at its antics - but then dh realised it wasn't funny - the dog wasn't frolicking - it was drowning! He jumped into the fountain and pulled it out, whereupon it vomited up copious amounts of water, and its owner fell on dh weeping and thanking him profusely in italian. My hero -the pug saver!
